The attempts of filmmakers of third countries and its Diaspora have a meaningful role in instigating social modifications via film industry. Since the 1960s, the cinema and the Third World have become greatly theorized and politicized. The third cinema is a kind of political film based on the experiences of third countries. Starting from a social movement based in Latin America in the 1960s that had the name of Cinema of liberation group, Third Cinema attempts to picture a Third World vision of cultural and social emancipation, it portrays and judges the different forces that promote inequality and iniquity.

This phenomenon is surely referred to the cinematic revivals that happened almost at once, from the mid 1990s in Latin-American countries such as Brazil, Argentina and Mexico. These revivals took place for various reasons in various places: a new law creating fiscal incentives in Brazil, the film school boom in Argentina, and the privatization of film financing in Mexico. Yet in all these countries, the revival in film production had to take into account political and social changes that brought governments to power.

In the 1970s, Latin-American filmmakers co operated with each other, in their anti-imperialist stances, because at present they are putting emphasis on their own cultural features to the international scene. Some of them even go to Hollywood to make commercial films there and more personal and exotic they do at home in Mexico. It is true that Latin-American movies do not conquer the market and only some of them, despite the raising production numbers, continue to go to Hollywood and be staged worldwide.

In the reality, visual styles have changed, genres have made a re-emergence and radical demands brought up by film-makers on their spectators have been broadly weakened. Some time ago there existed a problem that the Latin American film-makers did not always have good shooting scripts, nowadays they often run into another problem: a shortage of effective producers who know how to raise the finance, shape a production and bring the team together.

There exists the flow of foreign investments into Latin American films via the mechanism of co production. The process started in the 1980s with a raise of interest to European television. Since that time, parallel to the development of a Hispanic production in the USA, the pressure for a popular genre film industry has raised. Culturally, a prevailing factor that affects the modifications in the films has been the introduction of television. The effect of television has been the most impressive concerning Brazil, which grew to dominance and united the largest country in the South America.
