As an increasing number of questions have been raised about electronic documents and the ability to copy and distribute them, it becomes clear the institution needed to develop a statement on copyright. The purpose of the document is to provide a basis for guiding practice.
The writers understand that the field of copyright law and interpretation of fair use is in great flux and we will not be able to write a definitive policy that will have much staying power. Instead of that, we have written what might be called guidelines that will need to be revised frequently as the legal landscape changes. As the appendix to this statement indicates, we believe that an educational program will be very important follow-up to the implementation of the guidelines.
Our copyright policy
Without limiting anything set forth in these terms, and in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have the following copyright policy: We will terminate the privileges of any user who uses this site unlawfully to transmit copyrighted material without a license, express consent, valid defense or fair-use exemption to do so.
